A Ton of Anime News Arrived Over the Holidays

The Christmas holidays offer a wealth of activities much better than scanning the updates: discovering surprises, indulging in delicious food, and harnessing deep breathing to avoid yelling at relatives. I hope you were able to do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling developments surfaced over the festive period, and just in case you didn't see any, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Will Continue (Come 2027)

Truly the most shocking revelation, the notorious troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to halt more episodes. Season 3 will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they might as well have labeled it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the beginning, which might be a good sign. But, the key visual for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This suggests that, at this point, they are probably teasing the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an prestigious animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had never worked on an anime stemming from a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became massive popularity when it first appeared in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a reduced workload, the series showed it hadn't lost the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now fans are thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production

Kingdom is the best-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only just received an English translation, but the anime has been airing for some time, and its sixth season was yet another excellent entry. It turns out that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will almost certainly air in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

A further studio famous for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has given us masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and captivating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my watchlist.

The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Second Season

Immediately following the conclusion of episode 24, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be getting a second season. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has not yet been announced.
