Dominant Aryna Sabalenka Claims Consecutive WTA Player of the Year Awards.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight year.
The 27-year-old won four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – including successfully defending the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth career Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Season of Dominance
Across the season, Sabalenka played in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The star player also won the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the whole season as the top-ranked player, ending 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
In July, she became the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Numbers
Sabalenka ended the season with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and picked up a record £11m in earnings.
She earned nearly 80% of the votes cast by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "elevate women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Additional WTA Award Winners
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking a 13-month break after the birth of her first child and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko received the award after beginning the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and climbing to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after securing their second Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after making five championship matches.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third time.
