Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Player Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night indicating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and were in communication with the league office.

The team did not mention the player specifically in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, posted a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.

Police Reports Currently Not on File

No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.

Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles

Rice missed the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. He was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

On the field, Rice finished the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
