Texas Attorney General Files Lawsuit Against Tylenol Manufacturers Regarding Autism Claims

Courtroom Action
Ken Paxton, a Trump ally who is running for the United States Senate, accused pharmaceutical manufacturers of withholding potential dangers of Tylenol

The top legal official in Texas Ken Paxton is taking legal action against the makers of acetaminophen, claiming the corporations withheld alleged dangers that the drug created to children's neurological development.

The court filing arrives four weeks after Donald Trump promoted an unproven link between taking Tylenol - alternatively called paracetamol - during pregnancy and autism spectrum disorder in young ones.

The attorney general is taking legal action against Johnson & Johnson, which formerly manufactured the medication, the sole analgesic recommended for women during pregnancy, and the current manufacturer, which presently makes it.

In a official comment, he stated they "deceived the public by making money from suffering and marketing drugs ignoring the risks."

The company says there is lacking scientific proof tying Tylenol to autism spectrum disorder.

"These manufacturers deceived for years, intentionally threatening millions to increase profits," the attorney general, a Republican, declared.

Kenvue commented that it was "very worried by the perpetuation of misinformation on the safety of paracetamol and the possible consequences that could have on the health of women and children in America."

On its online platform, Kenvue also mentioned it had "regularly reviewed the relevant science and there is insufficient valid information that demonstrates a verified association between using acetaminophen and autism spectrum disorder."

Groups speaking for physicians and medical practitioners agree.

ACOG has stated acetaminophen - the main ingredient in acetaminophen - is one of the few options for pregnant women to manage discomfort and elevated temperature, which can create significant medical dangers if not addressed.

"In multiple decades of studies on the consumption of paracetamol in gestation, not a single reputable study has successfully concluded that the usage of paracetamol in any trimester of gestation leads to neurological conditions in young ones," the association stated.

The court filing cites current declarations from the former administration in asserting the medication is reportedly hazardous.

Recently, Trump raised alarms from medical authorities when he instructed pregnant women to "struggle intensely" not to use Tylenol when ill.

The FDA then released a statement that physicians should consider limiting the consumption of Tylenol, while also declaring that "a proven link" between the medication and autism in young ones has remains unverified.

Health Secretary RFK Jr, who oversees the FDA, had vowed in April to conduct "a massive testing and research effort" that would determine the source of autism spectrum disorder in a limited time.

But specialists advised that finding a unique factor of autism spectrum disorder - thought by researchers to be the consequence of a complicated interplay of genetic and surrounding conditions - would not be simple.

Autism is a type of enduring cognitive variation and impairment that influences how people perceive and engage with the environment, and is identified using doctors' observations.

In his lawsuit, the attorney general - who supports Trump who is running for US Senate - claims Kenvue and J&J "intentionally overlooked and tried to quiet the research" around paracetamol and autism spectrum disorder.

This legal action aims to force the companies "remove any marketing or advertising" that claims Tylenol is safe for pregnant women.

This legal action parallels the complaints of a collection of parents of young ones with autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who filed suit against the makers of acetaminophen in recently.

A federal judge threw out the legal action, stating research from the plaintiffs' authorities was lacking definitive proof.
