The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror Merging Survival Horror and Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed several fascinating upcoming titles, but one especially has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure appears to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive game where a young woman containing several personalities inside her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the mind," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of teenage years. Within her reside four distinct personas, each with their own anxieties and motivations. These entities can take over at will, releasing their innermost terrors upon her without warning.

Judging by revealed footage, much of the action unfolds within a creepy hospital, though additional clips show the main character exploring a desolate chapel.

A World of Individual Horror

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Things that appear minor to others can activate something primal within us. This game explores that concept — anxieties that are unique to every individual."

The central mechanic revolves around managing whichever soul emerges at any given moment. However, these identities will switch against your will during gameplay. During exploration, each soul's fears become amplified and attack the protagonist one after another. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Fatal Choice

At first glance, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is populated by nurses all sporting the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Figures in the lobby have enormous blooms growing from their necks are. Flowers are a recurring theme, contrasting organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "real" one. "All four souls claims that the body belongs to them," explains a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is real."

Once players believes a persona is fake, they are forced to destroy it. However, since every entity can lie or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already eliminated the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The last one standing could be a fake. Either way, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced release date, but it is can be wishlist on digital storefronts.
