The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.
Departure from Munich was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
