Three-time MVP Jokic sustains a 'gut-wrenching' injury to his knee.
Triple National Basketball Association MVP Nikola Jokic sustained a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee as the Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 to the Miami Heat.
The Serbian center was hurt late in the first half in an unintentional collision with team-mate Spencer Jones.
His teammate stepped on the foot of the MVP, and he promptly fell to the court grabbing his knee.
The star, who tops the NBA season in rebounds and dimes, recorded a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the game before sustaining the injury.
He will undergo an MRI scan on Tuesday to assess the extent of the issue.
"Immediately, he knew there was a problem," commented Denver head coach Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Whoever who is injured, that's difficult, most notably a player as special as he is. We'll find out more on Tuesday."
"We'll move on as a team. Obviously, currently, I'm focused just about Jokic personally and the disappointment of going through an event of that nature."
